Our Founder

Sarilla was created by Sara Stender Delaney, a lifelong entrepreneur and global activist. Operating between Vermont, Western North Carolina, and Rwanda, she has been alcohol-free since the age of 28.

Sara found that very few better-for-you, alcohol-free beverages tasted great, were free from artificial ingredients and sugar, and still felt just as celebratory as alcohol. She made it her mission to solve this problem so everyone could feel special and included — all while working directly with farmers so they could also benefit from Sarilla’s success as the brand grows. For a deeper look at our company roots and Sara’s commitment to this work, watch her 15-minute TED Talk and explore our list of recent podcasts and press.

"In a world so often torn by the devastation and despair of separation, Sara Delaney ignites hope and the power of transformation through the two most powerful lights of change... love and community! She opens her heart to help us find our Rwanda."

Before Sarilla, Sara founded the nonprofit Africa Healing Exchange (AHE), created to assist Rwandan Genocide survivors with trauma healing. She spent a year living in Rwanda and continues to return regularly. Every year, we host a Crop to Cup Trip where guests can explore our fully transparent supply chain and participate in a rich cultural exchange.

Sara is driven by a larger mission to serve humanity and to find empowering solutions to global challenges. Since first learning about the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, she has been deeply inspired by the courage and resilience of the Rwandan people. Determined to contribute, she moved to Rwanda for nearly a year, working with individuals who had lost loved ones and managing a restaurant that served as a hands-on training facility for survivors.
