Love it or hate it, we can't avoid the displays in stores and the sense that something is wrong if we are not buying into the messages surrounding Valentine's Day.
February 14th has become a day full of emotion: from joy and excitement to dread and depression. When did we give our power away to the corporate machine anyway?
We admit we are part of the machine to an extent, after all Sarilla is a business with expenses to cover and we have ambitious goals too. We would not exist if you didn't buy our products, but we also believe in freedom. Freedom to choose how you celebrate if you celebrate. Freedom to purchase healthy products that support self-care and love for our bodies and minds. Feeding each other sugar and alcohol, and purchasing flowers produced with unfair labor practices or damaging the planet just does not seem like love.Â
At some point this holiday became suggestive that if you were not in love with someone you were missing out or excluded in the day. Since then lots of campaigns have come to light for more inclusivity which we applaud. For all of you traditionalists out there, the last thing we want to do is ruin your perception of Valentine's Day.
We are not ANTI, we are FOR. The thing that would really make us happy is to see less junk pushed out into the world. More joy, less pressure. More authenticity, less fake narratives. More healing, less trauma. More health, less disease. More play, less suffering. More kindness, less fear.
Just for today we will walk through the world with more love in our hearts: for you, for ourselves, for strangers and yes, even for the corporate machine that created Valentines's Day.Â
